Ex-box

Eden Gallery, Harrow

Found floating in the Grand Union Canal, Uxbridge, an old 1960’s television had been drifting in the slow flowing water for nearly two weeks.  Several photographs of it were assembled in sequence as a video with slow transition dissolves.  The video was shown on a television screen; essentially one screen showing another earlier versions’ demise.  This single photograph ‘Ex-box’ from the series was shown later as part of a Christmas exhibition in Harrow, Middlesex: twenty four artists were given wooden boxes to customise.  Ex-box became an opening lightbox showing the discarded technology, and referenced the popular Christmas present of choice for that year (2003), the ‘Xbox’ by Microsoft.
